Diverting waste from Landfills
Unlike treated lumber, plastic lumber products resist insects, rot, moisture, and many chemicals. Recycling plastic into plastic lumber, a building material that mimics natural wood, can be used for outdoor furniture, decking, and other outdoor projects in place of standard lumber. Plastic-lumber products come in two types: composites (wood products made from a mixture of plastics and natural fibers) and "wood-like" products made solely from plastic. Recycled plastics are used in many of these products, diverting waste from landfills.
